The best way to introduce this to staff would be through one of the You Tube videos that I have included a link to. Or the teacher could develop her own PD as the one mentioned on You Tube. Exploring the web https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/ had many resources for this strategy some were free. The others were reasonable in cost. The resources on Teacher Pay Teacher would be great for hand outs. Teachers always appreciate handouts. Content areas: To adapt this for other subjects you can use the Something Happened / Then this Occurred/ So chart instead.

 

 

Work with students in small groups with this strategy. If there are a lot of characters have them begin with three. Provide them with a preprinted organizer to begin with so they understand how to set it up in their notebooks. Gifted Students- Expect the students to have more detail in their descriptions. Add the fifth step “Then” to their organizer. Have them critique each other’s organizers and give a score.

 

 

 Have teams develop a timeline during team planning on how they will implement this. Teachers will then return to planning with completed student rubrics and together they can reflect and revise to increase the effectiveness of the strategy.
